Program: Tara Benning, Juvenile Justice Chaplaincy

We are grateful to have had the opportunity to have Tara as our guest speaker at our October 23rd lunch/program meeting.  Tara serves as the lead chaplain for the Sacramento County Youth Detention Facility and she is a member of the Juvenile Justice Chaplaincy (JJC).  The JJC is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization whose mission is to help at-risk youth while housed in the institution. The JJC, through volunteers and staff and in conjunction with Sacramento County Probation, provides a variety of services to youth including:
Academic Tutoring
Spiritual guidance & mentoring
Chapel Service
Bible study groups
Art Class
Special events
Holiday parties
Concerts
As part of SISN’s service program, each December SISN members assemble candy rolls to be distributed to the residents of the facility on Christmas Day.  We were thrilled to learn how much the residents enjoy this small gift.
