Scholarships

The Soroptimist International of Sacramento North (SISN) Scholarship Program reflects our commitment to education and what is best for women and girls in their quest for independence and economic success. Our goal is to promote the education of a wide range of worthy students, including high school seniors and community college/university transfer.

The scholarships are funded by proceeds from club fund raisers, donations by club members and generous endowments from former club members. SISN has established endowed scholarships with the Los Rios Community College Foundation. Through this arrangement, more funds from earned interest are available for scholarships.

The following scholarships are offered by SISN:

Kathy Plumb Scholarship:  Kathy Plum, a former club member, left an endowment to assist high school girls to attend college.  This scholarship is established in 2016 at Cristo Rey High school, Sacramento, California.

Soroptimist International of Sacramento North Scholarship: This scholarship is established at American River College, Los Rios Community College District, for students enrolled in a university transfer program.

Elma Walpole Scholarship: Elma Walpole, a former club member, left an endowment for student scholarships This scholarship is established at American River College for continuing or university transfer students.

Isabel Swiden Scholarship:  Isabel Swiden, a former club member, left a sizeable endowment of which the interest will be used for scholarships. This scholarship is established at American River college for continuing or university transfer students.  We have shared a letter from our last recipient of the Swiden scholarship below.
